Best Time to Visit Egypt for a Luxury Trip
The best time to visit Egypt is October to April. Days are warm and sunny, evenings are cool, and touring the Pyramids, Luxor and Aswan is comfortable from morning to late afternoon. For a luxury trip, the exact month matters too: it decides how busy the temples are, how early the best Nile cruise suites sell out, and what you can add to your journey.
Egypt’s seasons at a glance
| Season | Months | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Peak season | December – February | Mild, sunny days; cool nights; busiest temples and highest demand |
| Shoulder season | October – November, March – April | Warm days, fewer crowds, excellent for Nile cruises |
| Summer | May – September | Very hot in Luxor and Aswan; quieter sites; best for the Red Sea |
October and November: our favourite months
The summer heat has gone, the winter crowds have not yet arrived, and the light along the Nile is beautiful. It is an ideal time for a luxury Nile cruise between Luxor and Aswan. On 22 October, the sun lights up the inner sanctuary of Abu Simbel, one of the most memorable sights in Egypt.
December to February: peak season
This is the most comfortable weather for sightseeing, so it is also the most popular. Christmas, New Year and school holidays fill the best hotels and cruise ships early. If you plan to travel in these months, book four to six months ahead. A private Egyptologist guide also makes a big difference now: they time your visits so you reach the main sites before the tour buses. On 22 February, the Abu Simbel sun festival happens again.
March and April: spring
Days get warmer and the crowds begin to thin. Occasional desert winds (the khamaseen) can bring dusty days in spring, so a flexible itinerary helps. It is a lovely time to combine Cairo and the Nile with a few days by the Red Sea.
May to September: summer
Temperatures in Luxor and Aswan regularly pass 40°C in summer. Sites are much quieter and many travellers enjoy them, but sightseeing is planned for early morning and evening, with afternoons spent by the pool or on board. Summer is also the best season for the Red Sea coast.
Ramadan and holidays
During Ramadan, which falls around February to March in 2027, sites stay open, often with shorter hours. Evenings are lively and festive. Your guide will adapt the schedule so you lose nothing.
