How Many Days in Egypt? Luxury Itineraries for 5, 7 and 10 Days
For a first visit, we recommend 7 to 10 days in Egypt. That is enough to see the Pyramids and Cairo, sail the Nile between Luxor and Aswan, and still enjoy your hotels rather than rushing between airports. Shorter trips work well too, if they are planned carefully.
The quick answer
| Trip length | What you can see | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| 5 days | Cairo, the Pyramids, the Grand Egyptian Museum, Luxor | Short breaks, add-ons to another trip |
| 7 days | Cairo, then Aswan to Luxor on a luxury Nile cruise | First-time visitors, couples |
| 10 days | Cairo, a Nile cruise, Abu Simbel or the Red Sea | The complete, unhurried Egypt experience |
| 14 days | All of the above, plus Alexandria, an oasis or Jordan | Repeat visitors, honeymoons, families |
Egypt in 5 days
Five days covers the essentials if you fly between cities. Spend two days in Cairo for the Pyramids of Giza, the Sphinx, Saqqara and the Grand Egyptian Museum, then fly to Luxor for Karnak, Luxor Temple and the Valley of the Kings. It is a full programme, so a private guide and driver save precious time.
Egypt in 7 days
A week lets you add the highlight of any Egypt trip: a cruise on the Nile. A classic plan is three nights in Cairo and three or four nights sailing between Aswan and Luxor, visiting Edfu, Kom Ombo and Philae on the way. Our Egypt & The Nile in Royal Style follows this route aboard the Oberoi Zahra. In under a week, our Luxury Private Tour Egypt – 6 Days covers Cairo, Giza and the Nile.
Egypt in 10 days
Ten days is the length most travellers wish they had chosen the first time. You have time for slower mornings, a sunrise trip to Abu Simbel, a felucca sail in Aswan, or a few days of rest by the Red Sea. For the most exclusive way to travel, spend part of it on a private dahabiya such as Aqua the Dahabeya.
Two weeks or more
With 14 days you can go beyond the classic route: Alexandria, the desert oases, or Petra and Wadi Rum in Jordan. Our Luxury Tours to Egypt and Jordan combine the best of both countries in one private journey.
How long to spend in each place
- Cairo and Giza: 2–3 nights
- Luxor: 1–2 nights, or as part of a cruise
- Nile cruise (Luxor–Aswan): 3–4 nights
- Aswan: 1 night, plus Abu Simbel as a day trip
- Red Sea: 3–4 nights to relax at the end
Tips to make every day count
- Fly between Cairo and Luxor or Aswan. It is about an hour by air, against a full day by road.
- Start early. Reaching the big sites at opening time means cooler air and fewer people.
- Travel privately. A private Egyptologist and driver remove the waiting that group tours build in.
- Leave one free afternoon. A luxury trip should include time to enjoy where you are staying.
